Hi! I’m Mary. Nice to meet you. Thanks so much for stopping by my site.
Who am I and what do I write?
I’m a freelance writer focused on telling stories about the people and issues at the intersections of education and social justice. I love to write content that explores the intersecting social, political, historical, theological, and economic issues and movements affecting marginalized communities worldwide, with a particular focus on and passion for the immigrant, refugee, foreign-born, and BIPOC communities. I also leave room in my writing to creatively pursue whichever topic is piquing my interest and capturing my heart at the time–typically one with a human-interest angle–and I try to keep things fresh by maintaining an attitude of openness towards exploring new topics and intersections of thought in my work whenever possible.
I also write historical fiction, personal essays, poetry, and short stories, and I’m currently researching and working on a novel that is a love story that takes place during the Irish Potato Famine and is heavily centralized around the historical figures and social movements ensconced in the Young Ireland movement.
If I had to sum myself up overall, I would say that I love God, books, people, and service. When one or all of these facets intertwine in my work, I’m reminded of the sheer blessing it is to get to experience and process this life through the lens of a story.
In other words: I love my job, and I can’t imagine myself as being anything but a writer.
How can I help you?
Do you have a deep dive, profile, or underreported story you’re itching to commission, but just haven’t quite found the right writer for yet? Are you a professional in the education, nonprofit, or social-good-corporate spaces looking for a writer, content strategist, copywriter, communications professional, social media marketer, or some amalmagation of all of the above to help tell your organization’s story in a succinct and service-oriented manner? Do you yearn to work with a wordsmith who is committed to creating and communicating content in a fashion, and with the intention, of amplifying and honoring the clients and communities you serve?
If so, I’m your writer!
Please reach out to me via email at mary.bast.writer [at] gmail [dot] com, or connect with me on my LinkedIn (please include a short intro so I know why you’re reaching out! :)), and let’s chat about how I can help assuage your needs for a well-told, well-woven, viscerally-driven narrative for your publication, organization, or company.
I look forward to connecting with you and getting to know you, and thank you so much again for stopping by my site!
Let’s go change the world with our words and hearts–together–yeah?
Onwards–and God bless!
“The most solid advice for a writer is this, I think: Try to learn to breathe deeply, really to taste food when you eat, and when you sleep really to sleep. Try as much as possible to be wholly alive with all your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell. And when you get angry, get good and angry. Try to be alive. You will be dead soon enough.”
― William Saroyan, The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze and Other Stories
